EAP 8: How to Successfully Start a Non-Profit
Monday Mar 19, 2018
Monday Mar 19, 2018
Unique provides her expertise to non-profit leaders as they navigate the paperwork to achieve their 501(c)3 status, seek funding, and acquire and manage their board members. Unique recommends that individuals seeking to start their own non-profit organizations outsource this administrative work so they can focus on building their programs and establishing the mission of their organization rather than getting bogged down in the paperwork behind the organization’s functioning. The biggest mistake the Unique has observed non-profit leaders make is to create programming that does not align with the mission of the organization, so it is critical for the leaders of the organization to firmly establish their mission and programming from the beginning.

EAP 7: Prioritizing Healthy Relationships
Monday Mar 12, 2018
Monday Mar 12, 2018
Krystal Rising is our guest on this episode of the Early Accountability Podcast with Kimi Walker. Krystal is a mother of 3 boys under the age of 4 and is a writer and blogger at www.nubianwellness.com. When Krystal started blogging there, she wrote about her dating relationship with the man who would eventually become her husband, and she now focuses on healthy family relationships. Krystal’s advice about maintaining a healthy dating relationship is to keep the lines of communication open, to talk about whatever you are feeling, and to make your intentions clear with each other early on. She has noticed that relationships within the black community are viewed differently by society than other relationships, which is unwarranted. Krystal and her husband intentionally set aside time to plan out their schedules to ensure time for work, for the kids, and for their own relationship, specifically planning one date night per month. Krystal’s guidance to people who wonder if they are in an unhealthy relationship is to step back and evaluate the relationship and look for any warning signs that you might have experienced in previous unhealthy relationships. At that point, you have to decide whether you are going to stay in the relationship and communicate your concerns with your partner or if it is time for you to leave the relationship.

Our guest on this episode of the Early Accountability Podcast with Kimi Walker is India Rias Thompson, communications coordinator at the Purdue University Extension, lifestyle blogger, podcast host, and Regional Director of Black Bloggers United – Indianapolis. India graduated from IUPUI with a degree in Arts and Communication Studies (Broadcasting) and she has used this background to become the social influencer and digital communications resource that she is today. India’s passion about the importance of inclusion originates from her own life experiences of being a black gay woman, making her a target for discrimination in all areas of her life, and her desire to combat this discrimination is evidenced by her confident digital presence. India gives advice to people looking to become their own hero and unapologetically pursue their own “passion project”.

EAP 5: Activating Soul Empowerment After Abuse and the Loss of a Child
Monday Mar 05, 2018
Monday Mar 05, 2018
Our guest on this episode of the Early Accountability podcast with Kimi Walker is Vanessa, a motivational speaker and author focused on lifestyle and personal development. Vanessa’s mother worked hard to ensure that Vanessa had a good childhood and received a quality education. However, Vanessa still had significant adversity to overcome in her formative years, including the feeling of abandonment by her father as well as enduring multiple years of sexual abuse. Losing her son, Kamden, after a short 9 months in this world taught her incredible courage, as she had a front-row seat to the joy and heartbreak of watching his life begin and end. The practices of overcoming obstacles and applying positivity deeply impacted her in this time and eventually became the subject of the book that she is in the process of writing. Through her YouTube videos and social media posts, she encourages her followers to connect with their own souls, in whatever method works best for them, and use their found power to decide where to go after experiencing a loss or obstacle.
